Some little known facts...
Prior to CNN, Swain worked at WPTZ in Vermont, WJAR in Rhode Island, and NewsChannel 8 in Washington. Her first job was delivering the Burlington Free Press every morning, starting at age 10 until she graduated from high school in Vermont. Sometimes you could catch her at 5 a.m. reading the paper before she delivered it to her customers.

Bethany is the faculty adviser to Stories Beneath the Shell – SBS News and the NPPA UMD student chapter.
She has taught a range of classes since she joined the Journalism Faculty at University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism in 2012. She teaches video journalism and storytelling skills to undergraduate and masters students.
Innovation
Bethany has a track record for creating innovative, award-winning, journalism projects, including:
- In Focus: Produced over 20 multiplatform photojournalist projects, which grew to be an hour television show on the networks of CNN, generating numerous sponsorships from 2007-2011
- #FamilySolutions: Developed, produced, shot and edited multiplatform series of character driven stories to highlight issues important to parents and families with CNN Anchor and Reporter, Lisa Sylvester - 2012
- American Journalism Review: Video Editor for the relaunch of the multimedia website, 2013 - 2015
- ViewFinder: Created “Advanced Video Storytelling” capstone class for undergraduate and graduate students, 2013 - present
- SBS News: Faculty adviser for student created web publication to highlight under-reported stories around University of Maryland's community. 2013 - present
- UMD NPPA: Faculty adviser for the student chapter of the National Press Photographers Association chapter named National "Outstanding Chapter of the Year" in 2015.
